It's always fun to see people who learned how to debate from posting online bring that energy to real life. Just a fun reminder that sometimes learning something can actually make you more of an idiot.

Sometimes I'm really thankful that my brain was already mostly developed before the Internet became popularized. Lord only knows what my autistic ass would have done with all the terrible information available nowadays.

Someone trying really hard to ignore the ~~transitive~~ symmetric property.

[-] FishFace@piefed.social 12 points 1 hour ago

This would be the symmetric property my friend.

Transitive would be: if you're my girlfriend, and you have a girlfriend, then she is my girlfriend.

[-] ramble81@lemmy.zip 2 points 57 minutes ago

My girlfriend?

Our girlfriend.

[-] gigastasio@sh.itjust.works 36 points 4 hours ago

I often think that there’s no way a man could possibly achieve levels of douchebaggery so high that he sends a message like this unironically. Then I get in my car and see large pickup trucks behaving the way they do.

Gaslighting behaviour: reframing, deflection, minimisation.

[-] slaacaa@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago

They teach that as executive presence in management trainings

[-] Klear@piefed.world 45 points 3 hours ago

Gaslighting isn't real. You made it up.

[-] Seimhe@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

The American Psychological Association (APA) Dictionary of Psychology defines gaslight as:

to manipulate another person into doubting their perceptions, experiences, or understanding of events.

[-] Klear@piefed.world 50 points 3 hours ago

The link says nothing of the sort. You probably misread it, or misunderstood it.

spoilerIt was a joke

[-] arrow74@lemmy.zip 2 points 34 minutes ago

And of course the American PYSCHOLOGICAL Associate would say that. It's how they make money by selling these bogus diagnosis guides to psychologists

[-] Seimhe@lemmy.world 17 points 2 hours ago

Ah, you got me.

[-] lugal@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 hour ago

The APA is famous for spreading fake news. Don't let them fool you, wake up

[-] elephantium@lemmy.world 7 points 3 hours ago

Whoosh

At this point, 'gaslighting' is just a synonym for 'lying' (or in this case, 'making excuses').

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 3 hours ago
[-] phar@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

Aww man...such a good opportunity to use the wrong definition and you squandered it with whoooosh

[-] FishFace@piefed.social 1 points 1 hour ago

I am kind of worried that I have said something similar at some point... not to be a fuccboi but just something similarly pedantic and arseholey.

Definitely. Except he didn't add how she hates him because of his freedom.

[-] jballs@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 hour ago

Do conservatives still say that? I remember Dubya saying that decades ago - and my wife and I still laugh at that occasionally. Anytime we have a minor convenience it's because someone hates our freedom.

[-] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

Usually not in those exact words. But everything adjacent to those words. Ben Shapiro repeatedly makes the comment that liberals hate America. Except he can't say liberals. They're the radical left. They're Democrats that hate America. Their DSA the hate America. They hate its abundance. They hate its progress. They hate its free markets. Unfortunately, one of the good things about Ben Shapiro is he does specify who "they" are. And he calls out people who don't specify who "they" are. It's one of the only good things about him.

[-] jballs@sh.itjust.works 1 points 39 minutes ago

I always find this stuff funny, but it sucks that so many people hear it and take it seriously. The idea of anyone that doesn't vote Republican just hating America because of our abundance, progress, or freedom is just ridiculous. But I suppose he can't go out there telling the truth or he'd lose his audience.

It's like those graphics you see on Fox News about the "radical left" ideas like free healthcare and affordable housing.

[-] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 1 points 29 minutes ago

He is losing audience. The Tucker/Fuentes right are cannibalizing his audience. Becoming a Trump Supporter didn't help him because he did it right before Trump supporters started thinking Trump wasn't radical enough.

[-] vivalapivo@lemmy.today 48 points 6 hours ago

This guy definitely called Saul TT

[-] HappyFrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 5 hours ago

There is a real question about whether a relationship should continue after a transition, but doing it over texts and in such a debatey way is kinda weird.

[-] SaltyIceteaMaker@lemmy.ml 19 points 4 hours ago

where did you get transition from😭🙏

[-] HappyFrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 4 hours ago

Lmao, I might have read it wrong. I read "I never asked for a girlfriend" as "you were a man, now that you're a woman I can't be with you anymore." 🤣

[-] bran_buckler@lemmy.world 8 points 4 hours ago

I think the implication is that this guy asked a woman to be his girlfriend, then cheated on her. When he was caught, he said that he only asked if He could be her boyfriend, but never claimed that she was his girlfriend, leaving him free to have other relationships. It’s a twisted logic that’s gaslighting the woman…

[-] HappyFrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 4 hours ago

Yeah, I see that I read it wrong, but Ill leave my message up because it's funny :P

[-] gastroglizzy@piefed.social 4 points 3 hours ago

I'm glad you did. I had a giggle

[-] AmyAye@nord.pub 3 points 3 hours ago

Don't feel bad, I kind of thought that's where this was going at first too.

[-] Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it 8 points 5 hours ago
[-] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 hours ago

I thought they meant transgression but they really did mean transition. Misread it as if the guy had a boyfriend who transitioned, and he didn't want to have a girlfriend.
