Goddamn. Imagine being so creatively bankrupt that you can't even write a simple birthday message for a child without Robot Daddy's help. I'm so glad the AI bubble is coming crashing down, it couldn't have come sooner.

What do you even say to those commenters? Like where do you even start?

Newish dad here. (When's that stop being "new" anyway?)

This made me tear up. I dunno it's been a shitty day as it is and of course I knew people like this were already a thing but...sheesh, man.

The "I hope they will be braver than you" thing...shit. Right?

I can't imagine being so hollow. This is already everywhere now, isn't it? People clanker-cranking posters, birthday cards, speeches, eulogies, love letters... We took for granted when somebody's words, however imperfect, were their own.

These zombies did exactly what all those shitty commercials told them to do: Pay 3 grand for a stupid phone and outsource human relation, sincerity, expressions of love, to a (in this case Google's) friggin planet-cooking Markov Chain.

I hope this entire era becomes a cautionary bedtime story. I hope our kids tell us in disbelief "No WAY people were THAT dumb! You're making it up."

This post was heartbreaking.

I call it brave to call out despicable behavior and this is despicable. Some things should be sacred ffs.

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 42 points 19 hours ago

shaming someone for a loving gesture

That wasn't loving. That was literally off-loading their own thinking to an unfeeling machine. It did not come from the heart. It didn't even come from their brain.

[-] AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 22 points 19 hours ago

"I hope your baby turns into their own beautiful butterfly in time."

There. Its not even that good but at least it came from my head.

But this seems like just another wedge that will be used to drive people further apart. Men vs Women. Right vs Left. Rural vs Urban. And now, AI vs no AI.

[-] thedeadwalking4242@lemmy.world 60 points 1 day ago

I have a theory that WAY less people are truly conscious and aware of the world then we think.

Just going throoigh the motions. Feeling everything like a human not really a NPC, but just no understanding anything.Just millions quietly miming others in a great charade.

[-] Malica@lemmy.zip 9 points 10 hours ago

Horrifying isn't it?

[-] nightlily@leminal.space 26 points 22 hours ago

It has been quite an eye-opener to realise that all the „haha all the coding I do is copying and pasting from Stack Overflow“ wasn’t just memes. Glazers are always like „it’s no different from copy and pasting like everyone does“ and I’m just like… people were doing that? That explains so much about the crap I reviewed.

[-] Soggy@lemmy.world 12 points 19 hours ago

It's the Pareto principle in full effect, or the 1% rule. Only a fraction (sometimes a very small fraction) of any given population actually creates or iterates in a meaningful way. Most people are just copying their work, following along without understanding.

[-] thedeadwalking4242@lemmy.world 10 points 21 hours ago

For real!! These people where sloping before LLMs ever even existed.

[-] anewfox@lemmy.zip 9 points 19 hours ago

a lot of people really seem to lack theory of mind.

[-] treesapx@lemmy.world 18 points 22 hours ago

If you don't work to form your own opinions then the world will happily provide them for you.

[-] _fryerDan@sh.itjust.works 21 points 23 hours ago

i've had this same thought recently. i found it by reviewing my personal motives over the past couple decades and I noticed my goals were Basic Bitch™ which is how i ended up in such a mediocre life

[-] cruseo@piefed.world 126 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

What I find even more revolting is this “any form of accountability is an attack, and I am, therefore, always a victim!” mentality people constantly use to excuse their shitty shitty actions and to avoid even a single iota of self reflection and or self improvement paired with an almost distain for the active consideration of anything or anyone else outside of their own selfish wants and needs

[-] Feathercrown@lemmy.world 10 points 19 hours ago

The victim mentality has been a thing forever but lately people seem to be supporting it. I think this is the result of an overextension of the otherwise helpful trending attitude around being conscious of others' mental health. I predict soon we'll see a backlash against both the helpful and maladaptive versions of this attitude, championed by the "self-sufficient man" archetype-- think of the "Oh my god you people can't do anything" tweet that this post's title is referencing.

[-] cruseo@piefed.world 5 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

I think that this is the backlash— the maladaptive use of the victim complex to further the agenda of the fascist as the “forever victim“ for anyone (let alone everyone) having dared had their revolting beliefs be challenged by reason.

If you think there is a forthcoming backlash against this usage… perhaps. if so, it had better be fierce and unforgiving. maybe this could be the start of it, and it’s a long fucking time coming.

why have self reflection when you can have self esteem?

[-] cruseo@piefed.world 13 points 1 day ago

Oh, the irony of that statement, lol

[-] dumnezero@piefed.social 15 points 23 hours ago

Yes, it was somewhat sarcastic.

It's about fake/insecure self-evaluation. You know, we're on the internet and in the attention economy: a world of external validation by humans and by software.

Can you imagine how Goodhart's law would apply to "self-esteem 📈"?

It really doesn't help this kind of attitude when you always have an AI sycophant in your pocket.

[-] Zephorah@discuss.online 16 points 1 day ago

Our leadership puts it forth as normal behavior. There’s a lack of role models right now.

Lol, "berate" or "shame someone publicly" by recounting an interaction they had with an unnamed woman during their day... These people are so pathetic and thin-skinned that they have to imagine (unlikely) scenarios about why a person couldn't just write from the heart. Laziness, apathy, insecurity, whatever... But the end result is they chose to rely on a chatbot to pretend to be human and write words they don't understand to a human they will never meet to convey emotions they don't possess...

[-] chunkystyles@sopuli.xyz 29 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

It's because they feel like they are the one being berated or attacked.

They think, "I would do that. It's normal. Therefore OP is wrong! I should not be ashamed! I am normal!"

[-] pulsewidth@lemmy.world 34 points 1 day ago

Yep, massive irony. But it's what I'd expect from the AI cognitively-decayed. They are literally berating someone publically, while complaining that they did the same (as you point out they did not).

[-] otacon239@lemmy.world 59 points 1 day ago

Maybe people use their energy and creativity on something else

Like what? If personal messages on birthday cards aren’t it, where is that last little bit of energy going, huh? I doubt they’re going home to paint or sing or dance. If you don’t have the energy to write about a newborn child, you’re not being creative anywhere else, I guarantee it.

[-] Dozzi92@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

For real. I'm a believer of the old adage "use it or lose it." If you're not working out your creative muscle, it'll atrophy just like the rest of them.

[-] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 15 points 1 day ago

And they think it's a "snapshot moment" when someone can't even bother to think about what to write. I hope i'm that naive.

Wait, nvm, no thanks.

it couldn't have come sooner.

I mean, it could have. And very probably should have.

[-] altkey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 37 points 1 day ago

We need to reclaim our right to be silly and inefficient.

[-] knuk@piefed.ca 42 points 1 day ago

My dad sent a very obviously ai generated message to my mom for her birthday. She loved it but then again she's always posting ai generated images and stories on facebook. It's depressing

[-] green_goglin@thelemmy.club 25 points 1 day ago

fucking clanker apologists

[-] Malica@lemmy.zip 3 points 11 hours ago

I usually try to speak to two sides to every story but this is ridiculous

[-] Rothe@piefed.social 40 points 1 day ago

AI sucks but I think it's unfair to assume everyone feels comfortable, capable or self assured enough to write something of their own.

That is such a stupid argument to make. It is not really so much what you write but the thought behind it. And the thought behind using AI is always signalling something negative. Not writing anything but your name would be more personal and heartfelt than that.

Meanwhile the shop owner is thinking they can charge a few bucks to generate slop and print it for you...

[-] ObtuseDoorFrame@lemmy.zip 4 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

Isn't she supposed to be a song writer? I'm just going to go ahead and assume that her future songs were written by AI and her previous songs were purchased.

Edit: I misread this post. I thought Phoebe Bridgers posted the AI poem. Oops! I'm glad I was wrong, as I kind of like Phoebe Bridgers.
