Virginia as well, where one was recently opened right off of I-81 in Mount Crawford. I think this map is a bit out of date.

[-] Equinox1289@sh.itjust.works 6 points 16 hours ago

And Arizona has one now too. They're really growing everywhere. It's crazy.

[-] StepUp2DaStreets@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

Arkansas as well. We haven't gone because of their aforementioned litigious bullshit, but they're popping up too many places!

[-] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 14 points 17 hours ago

Tough luck, there, Bro. Now you're going to have to feature $8 lattés and avocado toast, to draw all those woke Zoomers who don't want to work anymore.

outrageous! a rich person tries to make more money, althought they are rich. and democrats probably wanted something totally outlandish like the companies paying for what they use, fixing damages they cause and livable wages for the workers. no wonder socialism is barreling through the elections, people vote, not money.

There was a great bit about Buc-ee's scummy legal practices on Last Week Tonight a few months ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3oB-1qAj-Q&t=1908

[-] huppakee@lemmy.world 13 points 22 hours ago

As a non-american that episode was the first time I heard about Buc-ee's. Great watch. Love John Oliver.

Not available is the US

Eh, that was just a distraction to keep people from talking about the ludicrous amount of child pornography his son had (and is currently on trial for)

The defense attorney said the cases involve "many thorny legal issues" and one question in particular: "May a homeowner install a camera in his home without telling housekeepers or guests, or does the guest have a greater legal right than the homeowner?"

How the hell is this a thorny legal issue? It should not be a question at all.

[-] nickiwest@lemmy.world 15 points 22 hours ago

It's one thing to have a doorbell camera or a security camera inside that films your front door and foyer or living room. It's another thing entirely to have a hidden camera in the bathroom.

[-] the_wonderfool@piefed.social 5 points 20 hours ago

Yes, and even then it's basic courtesy to warn your guests, and it should be illegal to not notify your tenants/homekeepers of the camera (at least in my country it is, and it's illegal to install them in any living quarters - including the bathroom -)

[-] EmptyAsparagus@piefed.social 3 points 17 hours ago

its not illegal right now to hide cameras in other peoples living spaces, if you own the place? what?

Another thorny legal issue for republicans:

Do the "human rights" of black slaves trump the property rights of their owners? And how are you supposed to protect your economic rights other than by beating the shit out of them?

Do the "privacy rights" of guests and tenants trump the property rights of their landlords? And how are you supposed to protect your economic rights other than by recording their every move on your property?

It's basically the same fucking question. And it's such a thorny and contentious one finding a balance must be hard.

Because in a sane society, basic human rights clearly do not have precedence over any other rights, right?

they've left the material realm at this point

He was also a big Abbott supporter and donor. I personally never, ever stop at Buc-ee's because I try my best to vote with my dollars.

At this point I think it's safe to assume all republicans are protecting pedos or are pedos themselves.

Will he stand by his outdated principles? Tune in tomorrow on "As The Colour Turns".

Texan here. Buccees is WILDLY overrated. Their food used to be really good but they've apparently cut costs on it and now are no better than any other fast food place. They're just a glorified, gimicky gas station. Restrooms are always clean though.

[-] bilb@lemmy.ml 22 points 1 day ago

They seem like the weird fixation people have here in the northeast about Wawa and Sheetz. People, they are just shitty convenience stores with gas pumps. Relax!

[-] golden_calf@lemmy.world 9 points 20 hours ago

They are normal until you leave the area they cover and see just how bad other gas stations are. It's pretty bad out there

[-] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

You and me are going to have to fight now because you ranked Wawa and Sheetz as if they were equivalent. Wawa is the worst of the bunch of made-to-order food counter gas station/convenience store chains. People from Philly just gush about them because they never go any further than Bucks county and they don't know any better.

Rutter's blows them all out of the water, though.

If you're at a Buc-ee's it means there isn't shit to do within a half hour drive.

[-] Sintinium@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 day ago

my job is across the street from Buc-ee's and it just looks miserable to go there. Always a line of cars no matter the hour, and overcrowded inside the store. I would never go through that much effort to visit a overpriced gas station.

[-] Bluewing@lemmy.world 6 points 20 hours ago

Thank god those people can't tell colors.

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 62 points 1 day ago

They actually meant they won't operate in states that don't let them bully the shit outta small businesses for having an animal as a logo, even if it looks absolutely nothing like theirs.

[-] 4am@lemmy.zip 25 points 1 day ago

Don’t you know we are under Sharia law now? See you at Al Buqqi, brother

Not even sure what it is…will anyone actually miss it?

[-] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 14 points 21 hours ago

They're most-known for their massive gas stations (like 100+ pumps and 75,000 square-foot store) with overpriced food and gift shop. Some of their older, smaller stations South of Houston are more typical gas stations with 8-10 pumps, but they're known for the flagship stores. They also famously prohibit 18-wheelers.

I'll give them credit for what they do well. Their restrooms are generally spotless. They'll have multiple people who's entire shift is spent keeping the restrooms stocked and clean. And they pay better than most gas stations, though my understanding is that it's still a shitty place to work.

And that's about it on the good. There's a CVS-receipt list of ways they're shitty.

What I don't understand is their gas pricing. They're usually the cheapest gas around by a significant margin, which itself makes sense if they're trying to use cheap gas to get people to go inside and buy a 10 dollar sandwich. But they don't typically post their gas prices. Their 100-foot sign is just their logo, and you won't see the gas prices until you get to the pump. The price alone won't get people to the store. They could charge more than other places and most people wouldn't notice.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

They also famously prohibit 18-wheelers.

the fuck? what kind of shitty gas station bans their best customers?

[-] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 8 points 17 hours ago

Traffic control and to prevent the "truck stop" vibe that rich white people who will spend 30 dollars on a t-shirt with a beaver from going inside.

It also means that existing mega truck stops like TA, Loves, etc aren't in as much competition with them, and the truckers aren't buying up all the affordable fuel from Bucees without going inside to buy mediocre brisket.

Oversized gas stations. That's all. Not anything particularly interesting.
