She thought it was a competition of having the runs

The youths told her the coolest kids have drip

She heard she could make money streaming

[-] KingOfTheCouch@lemmy.ca 5 points 8 hours ago

You're terrible. Take my updoot.

[-] MrShankles@reddthat.com 3 points 9 hours ago

For the morbidly curious, here's some footage

[-] ScoffingLizard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 15 hours ago

Am I the only one impressed that she beat everyone else while shitting? Guess everyone else was grossed out.

[-] Baguette@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 13 hours ago

The article mentioned apparently some people slipped on it

I think if I was competing I'd not even try at that point. Might just dq myself

[-] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 5 points 11 hours ago

And using other equipment smeared with poo.

I'd probably lose some seconds deciding whether or not to climb a rope with someone's shit on it. (Like... I'd quit)

[-] tomi000@lemmy.world 13 points 18 hours ago

Holy... She kept going even after the diarrhea started? How did they not disqualify her once there was shit running down her legs? And the nerve to make all the other participants touch your shit just to win a race is something else. I know athletes need a competitive mindset but thats just disrespectful.

[-] limelight79@lemmy.world 10 points 13 hours ago

From what I read elsewhere, it sounded like a situation the officials were simply unprepared to deal with, and there was nothing in the rules about it. Just not something that has happened before or had been thought of as a possibility. I have the impression this is a newer sport, not something that has been around for decades or even centuries, like running.

[-] chilicheeselies@lemmy.world 1 points 44 minutes ago

It's CrossFit. It's just got a new name

[-] tomi000@lemmy.world 4 points 9 hours ago

Probably. I can imagine them like "what do we do? Spitting on the equipment is against the rules but it doesnt say anything about shitting"

[-] wjrii@lemmy.world 10 points 18 hours ago

I guess it happens to marathon runners all the time, but they're generally on public streets outdoors (with the airflow advantages that implies) and the worst case is stepping in it and getting it on their shoes. This is a much more up-close sport (and indoors), like to the point where other competitors might have needed to do pushups in the same spot she did them. They tore out the carpet after her race.

It doesn't help that she posted "Go hard or go home. A win is a win" while getting an IV immediately afterwards.

[-] tomi000@lemmy.world 7 points 18 hours ago

Yeah I think she didnt exactly have a clear mind after winning a professional competition while sick and leaking diarrhea everywhere. But yeah it does make her sound very arrogant and disrespectful.

[-] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 8 points 18 hours ago

It's piss like a racehorse.

And that is after the race.

[-] fartographer@lemmy.world 18 points 22 hours ago

For me, it's always a race when I have diarrhea

[-] maxthemummer@lemmus.org 9 points 14 hours ago

Why it's called "the runs."

multiple media outlets report that Wietrzyk's major sponsor, Puma, is distancing itself from the athlete by quietly removing "Joanna Wietrzyk x PUMA" clothing items from its website.
...
On social media, people have flooded the brand's comments with plays on "Puma," such as "Pooma," "Poopma" and "Poo Ma Pants."

Jesus Christ. Another embarrassment for Australia. I honestly don't know who's worse: Shitstirrer or Raygun.

[-] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 5 points 22 hours ago

After the Scott Morrison at McDonalds story we all just assume aussies shit themselves. It's why your PM is always in a floatie.

oi! Bruce!

[-] limelight79@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago

What's the good word, mate?

[-] AlternatePersonMan@lemmy.world 163 points 1 day ago

So much worse than it sounds. This was an indoor race and it wasn't just running. They used "communal equipment such as ropes, sandbags, rowing machines and medicine balls"

She finished first, so there was poop smeared on everything for the racers behind her. She ruined everyone's race and potentially got people sick.

[-] Slashme@lemmy.world 63 points 1 day ago

If it had been intentional, it would have been a brilliant strategy - take an early lead and shit on everything to slow everyone else down.

I can’t stop laughing

[-] Zagam@piefed.social 52 points 1 day ago

It was bad enough that athletes behind her were gagging and trying not to vomit. Now, hyrox did give those athletes time penalties.

I feel sorry for these people when I read stories like these. They're pushing themselves so hard physically and emotionally, their head's in a weird place, their judgement is off and they end up humiliating themselves on the world stage. Virtually the entire world. The worst kind of fame. This person's life is over. They will forever be the point of ridicule by everyone.

Can you imagine waking up every day, your career is totally over, having to face that. Knowing that the whole world has seen what you did in the heat of the moment. You have let down every one who supported you, your family, and failed your life's goal in the most embarrassing way possible. To hide yourself away in miserable shame is the best you could possibly hope for.

And it just doesn't go away, now you have to get on camera to apologize and explain it away. You have to make statements. You have to watch clips of it over and over. Everywhere you go people are talking about you in hushed mocking wispers. Everything you do will have an asterisk near it. One fucked up moment overshadows everything else you will ever do from here on out. For the rest of your life.

That's a hard burden to carry.

[-] Arshem@lemmy.world 1 points 12 minutes ago* (last edited 12 minutes ago)

Sucks that the athlete is getting all the blame when the event organizers are the ones who had the most responsibility to prevent this. They should've disqualified her as soon as they saw the feces running down her leg. It retrospect it's easy for her to see that this was gross and inappropriate, but during the heat of the competition the burden should've been on someone from Hyrox to pull her aside and tell her she is disqualified because she's causing a safety hazard for the other competitors.

[-] wjrii@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

Apparently, in her mind this was a Michael Jordan with the flu situation. She has pictures afterwards in a hospital bed getting an IV and bragging about how you have to do what you have to do.

Now all that said, I'm a little sympathetic, as apparently shitting yourself during marathons and the like is not uncommon, but this was some weird crossfit thing where you are indoors and constantly getting down on the floor for various reasons and using provided equipment, so anyone who came after her was wading through her poopies. I think you have to be capable of being very self-centered, at least temporarily, to be a truly elite competitive athlete, but somebody should have thought this one through better.

Wietrzyk's major sponsor, Puma, is distancing itself from the athlete by quietly removing "Joanna Wietrzyk x PUMA" clothing items from its website. But a spokesperson for Puma says there's "no change" to their partnership with Wietrzyk, telling CBC News in a statement Thursday that some landing pages were "unintentionally taken offline."

On social media, people have flooded the brand's comments with plays on "Puma," such as "Pooma," "Poopma" and "Poo Ma Pants."

[-] CheesyFingers@piefed.social 17 points 1 day ago

Nice PR apology. If she actually gave a shit she would have forfeit before it became an issue.

[-] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

At least she didn't double down or just keep quiet.

If she gave a "shit" you say?

[-] MrShankles@reddthat.com 4 points 11 hours ago

She gave too much shit

[-] celeste@kbin.earth 63 points 1 day ago

You know what? I'm going to give myself a little treat today and not read this article!

[-] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 day ago

It's guaranteed to be a shit article.

Nice of her to apologize, but this is really on the officials and the organization for not pulling her out.

High-level athletes are always going to want to compete. They'll play through injury and discomfort to win. If it were up to them, they would and do put themselves in danger of further injury just to get out there and play. That's why coaches and staff are the ones who make decisions to bench players for injury and it's not left up to the players themselves.

Damn. Well done to the odd man who sings about poop, puke and pee.

[-] RonnyZittledong@lemmy.world 74 points 1 day ago

It's wild that she just kept on competing. Call me crazy but once I shit my pants in front of thousands of people I immediately get the fuck out if there.

[-] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 153 points 1 day ago

She got the runs, not the stops.
